Gerald P. Hurst

    ABOUT

Gerald Hurst is a retired bank general counsel and bank regulatory attorney.  A passion in his retirement is increasing public understanding and support of the judiciary; he views ensuring continued judicial independence and integrity as critical to ensuring justice and the rule of law which are essential for our government’s success (as set forth/established by the Constitution of the United States).

Gerald saw the value of the three branches of government, and the critical role of the judiciary in resolving legal issues, during his 45-year career as an attorney with a bank regulatory agency and two of the largest banks in the world.  During his career, the laws restricting interstate banking and bank securities activities were changed, in large part due to actions (or inactions) of the executive and legislative branches that were then resolved by the judiciary/judicial branch.

Gerald was General Counsel of RBC Bank (Georgia), N.A., a U.S. banking subsidiary of Royal Bank of Canada (“RBC”), and U.S. Bank Regulatory Counsel for RBC.  Prior to joining RBC, Gerald was counsel at a law firm specializing in banking and consumer finance issues, and Deputy General Counsel for the Consumer Banking, Consumer Products, and Regulatory groups at Bank of America Corporation.  Prior to joining Bank of America, Gerald was Senior Counsel at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.
