ABOUT
John R. Ablan is an associate in Mayer Brown’s Chicago office and has extensive experience advising both corporate and financial institutions in a broad range of capital markets transactions, including high-yield and investment grade debt offerings, as well as preferred equity, follow-on equity and initial public offerings. He also advises on liability management transactions, structured finance transactions and out-of-court restructuring transactions.
The IFLR1000 guide ranks John as a “Rising Star” for Capital Markets in the United States for both 2021 and 2022. John is also named a “Rising Star” in the Americas for Capital Markets in Euromoney’s Expert Guide’s Rising Stars 2021. He was shortlisted for Euromoney’s 2020 Rising Star Awards for the Americas in the Capital Markets category.
John has been published by the American Bar Association, the International Financial Law Review, and LexisNexis on capital markets and securities law topics. He is a co-author of A Deep Dive Into Capital Raising Alternatives (2020), published by the International Financial Law Review.
In his prior roles, John has served both as in-house counsel at a major investment bank located in New York, as well as a capital markets associate for a major, full service law firm located in New York.
John received his JD from Vanderbilt University Law School, his MSc, with distinction, from the London School of Economics and Political Science and his AB, magna cum laude, from Washington University in St. Louis. John is admitted to practice in the states of New York and Illinois.
