Laurie Smiley is chair of the Corporate Laws Committee of the American Bar Association and Chair of the Institutional Investor Legal Forum. Laurie recently retired as CEO and Executive Director of TAK Advisory Limited, a strategic consulting firm, and was a non-Executive Director of Alta Advisers Limited, an asset management firm in London, England, and Maywood Asset Management Pte. Ltd., in Singapore. Laurie was previously General Counsel of Alta Advisers. Prior to joining Alta Advisers, Laurie was the General Counsel for the investment office of William H. Gates III and Cascade Investment, L.L.C. Prior to that Laurie was in private practice in Seattle, New York and Hong Kong. Laurie also currently serves on the President’s Advisory Board of Whitman College and the Dean’s Advisory Board of Tulane Law School.
