Luigi E. Orengo Jr.

Carlton Fields

ABOUT

Luigi Orengo is a litigator who focuses on bankruptcy, complex business litigation, judgment enforcement, and execution matters. He regularly practices in federal, state, and bankruptcy courts in Florida, but has also handled cases in federal and state courts elsewhere, including bankruptcy courts in New York.

Luigi has successfully litigated on behalf of lenders, mortgage servicers, merchant cash advance providers and other financial services businesses, as well as directors and officers, in state and federal court litigation including fraudulent transfer actions, fraud claims, business divorces, and judgment collection issues. Luigi frequently represents financial services clients in various bankruptcy matters, including drafting proofs of claim, attending section 341 meetings, and litigating issues related to use of cash collateral, adequate protection, lifting the automatic stay, as well as commercial litigation matters brought through adversary proceedings.

Luigi strives to be, as Charles Hamilton Houston described, a “social engineer.” He has worked with several justice-centered organizations, including the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, and the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia. Luigi continues to devote time annually to pro bono matters and is always looking for meaningful opportunities to get involved.

Prior to joining Carlton Fields, Luigi was an associate with Milbank LLP in Washington, D.C., where he focused on bankruptcy litigation. While in law school, Luigi was an editorial member of the Howard Law Journal and a Marshall-Brennan Teaching Fellow. He also served as an intern to the Honorable Elizabeth A. Kovachevich of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
