Mac R. McCoy is the Chair of the Business Law Section, a business litigator with the law firm of Carlton Fields, P.A., and a former United States Magistrate Judge in Tampa, Florida. He served as a Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida from 2015-2023. During his judicial career, he facilitated numerous settlement conferences and served on the court’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Rules of Practice, Procedure & Administration Committee, Bench Bar Fund Committee, Magistrate Judge Committee, Staff Attorney Committee, and Criminal Law, Probation Administration, and Pretrial Services Committee, Criminal Justice Act Advisory Committee. He also contributed to the 2021 and 2023 amendments to the court’s local rules, the 2021 revisions to the court’s civil discovery handbook, and the 2022 amendments to the court’s pro bono plan. Before his judicial service, Mr. McCoy was a Shareholder in the National Trial and National Class Actions Practice Groups at Carlton Fields, P.A., in Tampa, Florida. After his judicial service, he returned to Carlton Fields, P.A., where he is currently Of Counsel in the Business Litigation, Class Actions, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Labor and Employment, and Mass Tort and Product Liability Practice Groups. Mr. McCoy speaks and publishes extensively on topics including class actions, e-discovery practice and procedure, alternative dispute resolution, federal practice and procedure, legal ethics, and legal technology.
