Shuber originally joined the Blue Jays in 2003, in the role of Director, Business Affairs, acting as business and legal advisor to the organization’s executive leadership group and operational departments. He began reporting directly to the President and CEO in 2007 and was subsequently promoted to Vice President in 2011, and Senior Vice President in 2021. Shuber’s responsibilities include the oversight and management of all legal matters affecting the Toronto Blue Jays and Rogers Centre, as well as a variety of relationships and business matters relating to Major League Baseball and the Blue Jays’ intellectual property portfolio. Shuber oversees several lawyers and together they provide ongoing legal, business and strategic advice, direction and assistance on all manner of different organizational imperatives (including broadcasting, baseball operations, ticketing, merchandising, marketing and corporate partnerships). Shuber is a current member of the Toronto Blue Jays senior leadership team.
During his time with organization, Shuber:
- played a central role in the design, development and implementation of the Blue Jays’ current logos, uniforms and related branding elements, all of which were introduced in 2012.
- was a part of the core Blue Jays team that led the planning, financing and redevelopment of the Blue Jays Spring Training ballpark and associated player development facilities in Dunedin, Florida, a generational project that will have significant impact on the Blue Jays player development and related capabilities. The grand opening of the newly renovated TD Ballpark took place in February 2020, and the new player development complex became fully operational in 2021.
- together with the Toronto Blue Jays Corporate Partnerships department, organizational leadership and department team members, helped secure a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership arrangement with TD Bank in 2023.
Shuber was called to the Ontario Bar in 1999. He attended Schulich School of Business MBA program in 2003 on Dean’s Entrance Scholarship, completing core courses. Prior to entering the business world, Shuber was in legal practice as criminal defense counsel at the Toronto firm of Cooper, Sandler and West (Austin Cooper, Q.C., Mark Sandler and Peter West). Shuber received his law degree (Juris Doctor) from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto in 1997 and was the recipient of six separate academic awards. Shuber received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto, graduating with high distinction in 1994. He also attended the Toronto French School and is fluent in French. Shuber has been a guest lecturer for Osgoode Hall Law School’s Entertainment and Sports Law course. Since 2005, Shuber has been a member of and/or special advisor to a not-for-profit, charitable organization that operates a residential summer camp in Ontario. He is an avid photographer, traveler and amateur chef, an occasional musician and regular appreciator of music (particularly live performances of the band Phish). Shuber is a very proud father to one remarkable son.
