    ABOUT

    Michael Barber’s practice focuses on representing and advising creditors involved in bankruptcy litigation, corporate restructuring, and insolvency matters. Michael has experience representing corporate creditors in both chapter 13 and chapter 11 cases and has worked extensively on complex litigation involving creditors’ committees, negotiated settlements, and worked directly with clients to identify and implement effective strategies for desired outcomes. 

    Prior to joining Robinson+Cole, Michael served as a law clerk for the Honorable Ashely M. Chan, in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He has authored publications and delivered presentations on topics like fiduciary duties and ethical concerns in bankruptcy and analyzed legal issues associated with various types of creditor claims. 

    Michael is engaged in pro bono matters involving family law litigation and regularly accepts referrals from nonprofit agencies and organizations who offer legal services to various individuals and businesses.

    During law school, Michael served as a legal extern for the Honorable Carlota Böhm in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and worked for nearly two full years as a student law clerk for Ronda J. Winnecour, the Chapter 13 Standing Trustee for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

    Prior to his legal studies, Michael was employed as a disability integration advisor at the Federal Emergency Management Agency, where he assisted with Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. Additionally, Michael had a successful career as a special education advocate with Legal Aid of West Virginia, where he provided special education advocacy services to youths across most of West Virginia, and as a mental health coordinator with Valley Health Care Systems in West Virginia, where he worked with clients receiving a broad range of intensive outpatient and community-based behavioral health services.
