Melissa B. Jacoby is the Graham Kenan Professor of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a visiting professor at Harvard Law School in the Fall of 2024. From 2021 to 2024, appointed by Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts, Jacoby helped develop educational programming for courts through the Federal Judicial Center. A frequent commentator on bankruptcy and debt in national media outlets, she has testified before Congress and has published over fifty articles, book chapters, and op-eds, including recent essays in The New York Times and The Nation. Unjust Debts, her first book, received a starred review from Publisher’s Weekly, and recently made the Financial Times’ best economics books list.
