Phil Gura is a key member of the Atlanta FinTech team with the firm of Womble Bond Dickinson. Phil has significant experience in the fast-developing world of mobile and connected commerce as the Chief Legal Officer and Head of Government Relations of the Merchant Customer Exchange LLC (MCX). MCX was a consortium of 40 major merchants, including Walmart, Target, Southwest Airlines and CVS Health, to name a few, devoted to making mobile payments easier and more efficient for merchants and consumers.
In that capacity, Phil led MCX’s legal group with responsibilities for governance, regulatory/compliance, privacy/data security and intellectual property efforts, and represented MCX both at numerous payments-related conferences and panels and on Capitol Hill.
A frequently sought-out speaker, Phil recently moderated a panel of distinguished speakers leading a FinTech Roundtable on Critical Mass and Innovation in the Southeast at the ACG Capital Connection. Phil also recently appeared on panels at the Society for Corporate Governance Essentials Seminar, discussing issues related to cyberliability and conflicts of interest. Fintech developments, particularly in the areas of mobile payments and loyalty, data and privacy, are regularly covered in Phil’s writings on LinkedIn and other forums.
Over the course of his career, Phil has spent over fifteen years serving as chief legal officer of major corporations in the Southeast. Overall, he has more than thirty years of transactional, technology and consulting corporate law experience.
