Kwan Kiat heads the firm’s restructuring and insolvency practice group, the largest dedicated practice in this area in Singapore.
His practice comprises disputes and advisory work, advising lenders and accounting firms in both domestic and cross-border disputes, and he has acted in various banking disputes, liquidations, receiverships and debt restructuring of local and foreign companies.
Kwan Kiat is consistently recognised as a market leading practitioner for his expertise in various global legal directories including Chambers Asia Pacific, IFLR1000 and Asialaw Profiles. He is ranked “Band 1” practitioner by Chambers (since 2013), recommended as a “Global Elite Thought Leader” by Who’s Who Legal: Restructuring & Insolvency 2023, and named “Lawyer of the Year”, for two consecutive years, in Insolvency and Reorganisation Law by Best Lawyers in Singapore 2024. He is also part of the expert group involved in the ongoing work in UNCITRAL Working Group V (Insolvency Law) on applicable law in insolvency proceedings, and is an Associate Mediator on the Insolvency Panel of the Singapore Mediation Centre.
