ABOUT
Myrna Barakat Friedman is an independent commercial arbitrator, mediator and dispute prevention neutral with over 25 years’ experience leading corporate and transactional matters. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a NY-State Certified Mediator. She has been appointed as Chair, Sole Arbitrator, Co-Arbitrator and Appellate Arbitrator to a broad range of cases involving commercial and financial matters, including matters under the AAA, ICC, CPR and FINRA rules. She is listed as a mediator on the AAA, CPR and ICC panels as well as New York State and Federal Court rosters and has conducted both administered and private mediations for disputes in numerous sectors.
Before starting her ADR practice, Myrna led the structuring and execution of domestic and cross-border business combinations and securities offerings in the US, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East. She is the Founder and Managing Director of MB Corporate Advisory Partners (MBCAP), a boutique corporate and strategic advisory firm. Prior to establishing MBCAP, she was a Managing Director–Corporate Development and Chief M&A Counsel at CIT Group (2005-2008). Myrna started her career practicing corporate law at Hughes Hubbard & Reed (1997-1998) and Sullivan & Cromwell (1998-2005), counseling national and foreign corporations and financial institutions on a broad array of securities offerings, mergers, acquisitions and other business combinations.
Myrna is a member of the New York State Bar and a graduate of McGill University’s Law School, where she earned degrees in both common law and civil law, and McGill University’s School of Management, concentrating in Economics and Finance. She is trilingual—English, French and Arabic, and has a working knowledge of Spanish.
